Grilling with Cave Tools

We cook outside a lot! And by "a lot" I mean if it's not raining and we're not racing off to a school or a sports function, dinners on the grill.   And despite my best efforts, hubby goes through utensils like they're going out of style.  And it's not due to the lack of trying... We've tried numerous sets of utensils and they never seem to last due to the flimsy design or wooden handle that no matter how you wash it, always seems to crack after a couple months.
So after many reviews of the Cave Tools products and seeing how well they withstand use and abuse, we decided to give their Grill Set a chance.

As usual, they are super quick shipping!  I love it when I place an order it's here in a couple days rather than weeks. And of course yet again, we are thrilled with the design and quality.

Right away, hubby noticed three things, how thick and beefy the tongs are, the super sharp serrated edges on the spatula, oh and the spatula has a bottle opener built into the design.  The stainless steel is thicker than any set we've ever used for sure!   The extra large tongs are grip really well and are perfect for lifting large pieces of meat off the grill.  They are easy to handle and even come with a clip to hold them closed while not in use.

Like hubby said, the spatula has a built in bottle opener!  This is so great for when we have family and friends over, no more running back and forth looking for an opener.

And did you see those serrated edges?!  Yes, they are sharp!  Now he can flip, turn, move, and cut whatever's on the grill without carrying an extra knife outside also.  Maybe with any luck, that means no more lost knives.  I swear when things don't get brought in they walk off into the woods to never be seen again...

Each of these pieces have their own unique qualities and seem to be really well designed.  The fork is also shaped to prevent the meat from falling off and each piece has a leather and metal hanger so you can store them wherever you need to.

This is a really great BBQ Grill set and we will be adding it to our 2018 Gift Guide coming out soon so watch for it!

A Better Nights Sleep with AuCuTee White Noise Machine

Sleep?  What's sleep? Who needs sleep with a perfectly adorable 5 month old who's awake at 330 in the morning like clockwork.... I have to admit, I'm kinda tired but that's just part of it right?

So we're on the search for a little assistance while we're working on this sleeping through the night thing.  One day... One day I'll remember what a full nights sleep is.

One thing we're trying is a white noise sound machine we ordered off Amazon from AuCuTee and it's finally here!

The AuCuTee noise machine fits really well on the nightstand between our bed and the crib which is perfect so Baby Kolton doesn't wake when we're stirring about in the room.  I did have a phone charger plugged in there but luckily the noise machine has not one but two USB ports for charging!  *Ya know the important details.... And really if it didn't we would have had to either get an extension cord or put it somewhere else so this really is a great feature!

The white noise (kinda like a constant fan without hair blowing in your face) gradually gets louder after about 5 minutes to promote a more peaceful transition into sleep.  I feel like if it didn't then I wouldn't turn it up loud enough to make a difference because it would be more distracting than comforting and I would end up turning it off without giving it a chance.

There are two different basic volume settings though. Then the top twist back and forth to expose slats and holes in the design which allow the volume to be adjusted within those two settings as well.  I love how easy the volume is to adjust even if your only about half awake!

If you look over at the 30 - 60 button, you can see there's an automatic shut off timer as well.  The middle will allow the noise machine to run continuously and then of course you can choose a timed setting if you wish.  Another easy feature to adjust in the middle of the night!

With any luck and some wishful thinking.... Maybe this sleep thing will get better.  I've had it on today while Kolton's been napping and he's not stirring around nearly as much.  I'll be sure to give you an update!

In the mean time, if your looking for a white noise machine or just something to block out a little background noise this AuCuTee White Noise Machine is definitely worth giving a try!  Check it out at the following links;

Nail art with Townleygirl- Hello Princess!

It took Layla a couple minutes to admit she wanted our last TownleyGirl package because she's anything but a girly girl.... If you remember there was that bling bling pen, shinny folder, and a couple "girly" items in an Incredibles theme.  But once she did... I knew I had to give this girly girl thing another chance.....

And now we have received our second package from TownleyGirl I was SUPER nervous about giving it to her.... So I took everything out of the Princess packages and put it in this little pot for her.  I told her I wanted to set up a couple little pots like this for her birthday party next month so all the girls could primp and pamper and now she's SO excited. Whewwwwww!

Goodbye Princess packaging- Hello Princess polish and make up! I might be on to something here...
Don't let the pink shirt fool ya either because I never thought she was gonna wear it but it has emoji's on it and apparently that's a thing....

So what did she think?  First thing she did was of course carefully inspect the new colors and decided that she could create some nail art like they "do at the salon".   Great!  And she sure did!  She sat down for about an hour doodling on her fingertips with a toothpick and tiny brushes.

As you can see TownleyGirl offers a large assortment of colorful nail polish for kids.  Not only did we receive a cute Princess Set of polish but TownleyGirl has some other really neat polish sets too.

The Color Blox polish has three different colors in it that tint the bright fluorescent polish.  It's kinda neat because the more you shake it up the slightly different your shade changes.

Now that Glitter Gal S nail polish is neat!  Until hubby tries putting "s"'s all over your arms.....  What a goof! But seriously, the "S"s are easy to grab and lay on well.  (even on skin....) Needless to say we were all joining in while Layla created some nail art.

Layla also received a Disney Princess Cosmetic Set from TownleyGirl and said it fit in her bag perfectly because it folds up like a fan.  Silly girl!

TownleyGirl offers a huge selection of party favors, stocking stuffers, and has some of the cutest gift collections all in one place!  I love browsing their website and even found a spot for "My Wishlist".  I'm gonna set Layla up on that and she can create a list of her favorite products for us to share with grandparents as the holidays get closer.  I'm not entirely sure that's what it's supposed to be used for but as long as I don't store any cc info she can't do any ordering.

Peanut Butter Quinoa Flakes

I have a dirty secret... I'm in my 30's and up until this summer I had never tried Quinoa.... Ok, maybe not as dirty as I thought but seriously.... I guess I've just been hiding under a rock because not only had I not tried it until recently, I hadn't even heard of Quinoa.
So I thought I would give it a try and turns out, yea.... Why hadn't we tried this sooner!  The hunt was on.... After a couple Google searches we found Pereg Natural Foods and are having fun trying a few new
recipes.
The other day, I made these Quinoa Flakes as directed on the package for Maison.  Quinoa has no natural sweetness at all so we added some cinnamon and banannas for some additional flavors.  He liked it fair enough.  Said it needed more sugar but kiddo.... that's what we're trying to eliminate.

Today we're trying a Peanut Butter Quinoa Flake Porridge.  (My house smells like peanut butter cookies!  Maybe that's next...)
Of course I tweeked just a little bit and like every recipe your more than welcome to do the same to accommodate your own taste.  This recipe is not sweet.  Let me repeat that... THIS RECIPE IS NOT SWEET!  So if your a sweets eater or giving it to your kids for the first time, some maple syrup does the trick!
One thing to remember is this is a great recipe to make the night before and just heat up for an quick easy breakfast in the morning.

Peanut Butter Quinoa Flake Porridge is a great alternative to oats and this recipe is thick, creamy, and full of flavor!
Ingredients

Instructions
  1. In a saucepan combine and bring to a boil water and milk
  2. Add peanut butter and stir until there are no lumps.
  3. Fold in quinoa flakes and salt. Then stir until slightly thick (for about 3-4 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat & let it sit for 2 minutes.
  5. Serve with added fruits, shaved chocolate, or maple syrup if desired.

We really like the Pereg Quinoa Flakes.  They are super easy to cook, taste great, and as you can see made a quick breakfast for the kids!  This is great for back to school!  Follow along with us because we are going to be trying more Pereg Foods and trying some more new recipes!

Best Party Balloons Ever!

We've been doing quite a bit of online shopping lately trying to get ready for our double birthday party next month.  Maison and Layla share a birthday just a day apart so it's become easier to just kinda combine their party.  In hopes that they won't hate us for it when they're older, we just try to make it as great and grand for them as possible.

There's a couple things we have stored away for the party and these LED Balloons from FunSparks were one of them.... But the curiosity is killing me and these little packages just keep peeping out of the box saying "OPEN ME"....

So.... Friday night when it was just Layla and Baby Kolton home, I decided we couldn't wait any longer!  We got out a couple of the balloons and turned off the lights!

Needless to say my camera doesn't really like dark pictures but look how bright that balloon is!

She had a blast bouncing it around in the dark and then even taking them into complete darkness to play different games like finding her way from one side of the room to the next.  She's such a silly girl but plays so well!

Saturday evening, the balloons were still flickering through the different colors.  I'm really surprised at how long they last.  The package says 24 hours, but by this time we were going on 36 easily.

How do they work?  Unlike most packages of balloons, these are nicely put together so you don't accidentally trigger one of the balloons before your ready.  Each balloon is equipped with a pull card and it's as simple as that.  When your ready for your light show, pull the card and you can either fill with air, helium, or water.

I'm assuming the LED light is wrapped to protect it from popping the balloon, but these balloons are super high quality.  I grabbed one Sunday and tried to bite a tiny hole in it to let all the air out and I actually ended up taking a pair of scissors to it because it didn't "pop" as easily as I would have expected.  That in no way is a complaint because that means they won't be popping seconds after filling them up when the kids go crazy.  HUGE PLUS!

I'll be sure to share more pictures from the party next month.  Layla has the rest of the balloons stashed away for a "dark balloon room" when all her friends come over.  I think these will be a great addition to our decorations and a little party fun!

Homemade Washing Soda

Ingredients
Baking Soda

Instructions
1. Fill a wide baking dish with baking soda.

2. Use a fork or other utensil to break any clumps if needed.
2. Heat in the oven at 400 degrees until all the baking soda becomes washing soda. Occasionally mix it so that this process happens faster and more uniformly.
3. Use as needed!

1 ingredient. 1 step SUPER EASY!

This process for the picture above took a little over 2 hours to complete because I had it layered thick on the pan.  Most detergent recipes only call for a cup or two of washing soda, (wish I had remembered that before this batch).  Do yourself a favor and make in "thinner" batches.

The difference between baking soda and washing soda is water and carbon dioxide. Seriously. Baking soda's chemical makeup is NaHCO3 (1 sodium, 1 hydrogen, one carbon, and 3 oxygen molecules). Washing soda's chemical makeup is Na2CO3 (2 sodium, 1 carbon, and 3 oxygen molecules).

When baking soda is heated up to high temperatures, it breaks down to become washing soda, water steam, and carbon dioxide.

Most recipes only call for small amounts of washing soda, so rather than buying a large box you can take the baking soda you already have and make it as needed.

Washing soda is great for Home made laundry soap.

So how do you know if your baking soda became washing soda? Baking soda and washing soda look different, feel different, and taste different. If you make your own washing soda, you'll be able to tell in an instant which baking soda has become washing soda and which has not yet.

But if you don't believe me that you'll know immediately, the differences between the two are this: Washing soda is grainy, baking soda is powdery.
Washing soda is dull and opaque, baking soda is crystalized like salt and reflects light, i.e. it is semi shiny.
Washing soda is separate grains, baking soda clumps together.

Party & BBQ Games with FunSparks

Maison and Layla share a birthday by 1 day, so of course it had just become easier to have both parties at once.  We usually have them here at the house so the kids can run wild, swim, explore, shoot things ect.  As long as their getting along it's an afternoon well spent with family and friends.

I had been looking for some new outdoor games for the party next month and hit the jackpot with FunSparks! Usually I'll pick up a game here a game there and then put them all together after an entire afternoon of shopping.  Party planning can be exhausting for sure! But if you head over to the FunSparks website, you'll learn as quickly as I do, they got us covered!  They have everything!  We even reviewed a "cute little" speaker with some big sound a couple days ago!  (Read that review here)

As you can see, we have quite the collection already set up for the kids!  But I just couldn't wait to try out all these new games so we took them over to our neighbors BBQ and oh my goodness!  It's been a really long time since I've seen so many adults get up and engage in physical play!  It was so neat watching everyone enjoy the games!

Jeramiah set up the Lawn Darts first and these two couldn't help but join in and play from the porch.   The Lawn Darts come with a plastic rings you set up in the yard and simply aim and toss.

The game's super easy and a lot like horseshoe if you've never played.  I wouldn't say it's for anyone under 4 or 5 but it's definitely a game for almost all ages!  Lawn Darts also came with it's own carrying case so that's a super plus when it comes to organization (or preventing the kids from losing everything...).

Now the FunSparks Paddle Catch game's the one that surprised me.  I remember getting games like this for the boys when they were younger so there was no way they were gonna play with it now that there in their teen years.... I was wrong!  Such a traditional game, with an easy concept.  Toss the ball... Catch the ball... Easy right?  You would think, until one of the boys get's a wild arm and off into the woods they go to retrieve the ball.  It really was pretty fun to watch!  I did notice though that even after all evening of tearing the ball off the Velcro pad, the pads stayed intact and are still holding up well.  Again I was surprised because the paddle catch games I purchased years ago never held up through just a couple hours of play.

The Easy Disk Frisbee is a soft frisbee wrapped in nylon material and is great for the littles to learn how to play.  I'll have to get some more pictures of our tiny friends with this one at the party.  But it's comforting to know they can throw this around and even if it does hit someone, and I'm sure it will, it's not gonna hurt like the hard plastic ones.

Well as the evening went on, we realized most of these games are specifically for two players.  So what did everyone do?  Combine them of course!  We also received FunSparks Switch Ball game.  Now this was one I had never played before so I thought I would give it a whirl.  It's a lot harder than it looks!  Toss and throw... Same concept which is what made these games pair nicely, but with Switch Ball you have to catch and throw with those nets only holding onto your colored wands.  Now truth be told, those little nets will really REALLY launch the ball.... I even used mine to launch the dogs ball we got in our Pet Treater box and it flew!

Now I regret that I didn't get more pics of Jeramiah playing with this Return Ball. I remember having one of these I bought from a toy store in KC when I was about his age so it was kinda neat watching him play with the same toy I did when I was little.  Of course, I didn't offer any tips or tell him "how" to play with it because I was on the phone and he is about as patient as I am so have at it kiddo!  It's pretty simple if he would slow down and let me explain it.  The ball is on a long bungee type cord and you Velcro the other end around your wrist.  With a little practice you throw it and your able to catch it as it "returns".  But practice indeed.  I think he only whopped himself a couple times but eventually got pretty good at catching every throw.

And the last game we added to our BBQ & Party stash is FunSparks Deluxe Paddle Ball set.  As you can see, one of the yellow feathers made itself a new temporary home on the roof (speaking of now that it's raining I need to go see if it's come down yet!) but the boys really seemed to have a good time with this one as well.  They could use a little more coordination in their lives and it would be easier but hey practice makes perfect and this is a great game to help them develop that hand eye coordination.  Plus the two orange feathers you see, light up with LED bulbs so they are great as the sun's going down and it begins to get dark.  They totally add a new element to the game and keep the kids out there playing when they would have normally started pestering the adults they they're board...

It was really neat this weekend seeing everyone get up and play.  I can't wait to see how the kids do at the party!  More pics to come I promise!

In the mean time, check out FunSparks and all their great activities to keep your family busy at the following links.  There's seriously games for everyone of all ages!

Kolton's exploring with his new People Toy Company toys

It's kinda crazy to think our sweet baby boy is almost 5 months old....  He's already rolling all over the place, pushing himself from one spot to the next and everything is play play play then right in the mouth!   I love watching him grow as he explores with new shapes, colors, and feels.

It's always fun to watch him explore with new toys and this week Kolton received two from People Toy Company.    The Eddie Rattle and Mochi Teething Plate seem are simple that they're a nice reminder that babies don't need flashy expensive toys to learn and grow.  Both of these toys from People Toy Company are lightweight, and promote growth of fine motor skills and oral motor skills.

Now I know no where on the Mochi package does it say anything about promoting development but look at the texture, the swirls, and the easy to grip hole.  Watching Kolton pick up this thin teething plate and put it directly in his mouth shows me how this is helping him develop these fine motor skills.  The textured bumps are great for soothing sore teething gums too!  But there's one reason we choose Mochi....   The Mochi Teething Plate is made from sustainable rice-plastic and not toxic paints or adhesives.  All of the People Toy Company products in the Mochi series are made like this and as a parent it's comforting knowing my child isn't putting something in his mouth that can hurt him.

Now Eddie the Educational Rattle seems to be his favorite.  The head bobbles and each of the limbs just slightly wiggle keeping his attention through movement and the sounds.

Eddie the Rattle is full of different colors on each piece and Kolton really enjoy's chewing on the soft plastic, mainly the head.  I really wish I would have snapped a picture the other day when I turned around and he was holding Eddie in his mouth by just his head.  Kolton's definitely at the chewing stage but no pearly whites yet...

Eddie is easy for Kolton to pick up and hold onto which is important as he develops these motor skills.   Although Eddie looks so simple, I love the different colors and textures on his arms and legs.  Each is it's own color and they're shaped accordingly as limbs but really provide something for Kolton to tug and pull on.  Eddie the Rattle is too cute!

Kolton's having a blast with his new toys from People Toy Company.  Be sure to check them out the following links and let us know which toys we should try next!

Up for Anything with our UpCart Deluxe

You would think after 2 years, I would be used to the amount work it takes to maintain our huge yard snuggled deep in the woods.  But it's not as much the yard as the chickens, pigs, puppies, flower beds, and gardens.  Country life sure is a bit different than living in town.  I mean, sure I don't truly have to keep the yard as perfect as I would like but it's a habit that I'm not really willing to give up.  I don't know about you, but I like pulling up to our home and it being nice and tidy inside and out.

And now that the kids are back in school, it's time to do some deep cleaning again!  I always feel better walking outside and knowing that everything's just a little more organized and a little more where it's supposed to be.  Even if it really is a never ending job.

But this gives us the prefect opportunity to try out our new UpCard Deluxe! This beefy "dolly" type tool is one of my new favorites!  Out with the old and in with the new because I will never use a traditional dolly again.  Look at our traditional dolly, it's big, bulky, there's no easy way to store it, and it isn't as easy to maneuver around like the UpCart!  Then of course is our little wagon.  I bought that right after we moved out here.  It's taken a beating for sure!  The kids use it to haul wood and trash  among other yard task but it's quite funny when it takes two of them to push it through the yard because of our rough terrain.

When I first took it out of the box, I noticed how heavy and sturdy the entire support system appeared.  Look at these teeth and how thick the heavy duty aluminum is.  The UpCart Deluxe is ranked to support up to 125lbs but the heavy duty aluminum design lightens the weight resistance making it easier to move heavy items.

The UpCart Deluxe is really easy to use.  Granted I had to read the directions before opening it, but that's just the blond in me I'm sure! A little common sense goes a long way and I haven't had nearly enough coffee yet this morning.

I was able to open and close the UpCart with a little push from my foot.  Even with sandals on I had no trouble opening and closing the cart once I realized I couldn't put weight on the wheels while trying to do so.  Again, I need more coffee....  But seriously, once I figured it out, it was so easy and really neat how a little push opens everything right on up.

The handle raises with a easy squeeze into three different positions, closed, and then raised up two more times.  The tallest setting is a little tall for me, but that would be great for someone who is taller than I am of course.  And seeing how it slides down into a much shorter position shows me that the UpCart is great for people of all sizes and abilities.

How did the UpCart hold up for our chores?  The other day we had some blow up storms that ended up leading into a couple tornados. Crazy Missouri weather.....  With that being said it was a race to get all the animal feed and my craft stuff moved out of the way in the garage so we could get the car in there and hopefully avoid the hail.  Mission accomplished but now it's time to move everything back.  I got work to do!

First thing I loaded up on my UpCart Deluxe was a metal trash can of feed.  These are generally pretty heavy and I usually leave them for the boys to lug around but I'm inpaitent and it's time to get the garage put back.  I pushed the feed up on the UpCart's raised base and used the included bungee cord to secure it to the cart.  I kind of wondered if it would tip on over, but here it is resting as perfectly as can be.

I don't have full fledged stairs out here but thresholds raised above gravel and a pretty rough terrain.  The threshold that usually gives me trouble with the traditional dolly was no match against the UpCart.  The bottom wheel recognized the step in the way and the wheel mechanism rolled on over to sit gracefully on the step that I would have normally had to tug and pull a dolly across.  There was almost no effort at all getting the feed can back into the garage.  I was super delighted at how easy the UpCart made moving this can around!

There's a couple different versions of the UpCart available on their website to order so why did we choose the Deluxe version?  Since we will primarily be using the UpCart around the yard and outside moving things too and from the car, like all those bags of feed, we choose the Deluxe version for the raised platform design.  The raised platform will be great to keep things off the wet muddy ground or protect my craft tubs when I'm taking them to the fairs.

The UpCart also folds up nicely which is great for storage and not taking up a bunch of room when I need to take it in the car with me.  In comparasion to the traditional dolly, the UpCart folds up to a fraction of the size!  Not only can I store it on a single nail hanging from the wall, but it fits gracefully in the car as well!

I love my new UpCart Deluxe and would recomend one for anyone who needs a little help carrying things from one place to another!  Even if it's groceries from the car, this beefy little mover is a great asset to daily living!

Be sure to check out the UpCart Deluxe and other models at the following links.  Let us know which one would be a great fit in your home!
